Sometimes it takes a Woman

A woman of courage.
Justinian was the Emperor of the Byzantine Empire during the 6th Century A.D. when in 528 a serious riot broke out in the city of Constantinople.  Justinian had been unaware of the growing dissent of the common people who were bearing the brunt of heavy taxation.  In addition, not being of noble birth, Justinian was despised by the nobility who, simply because of their status demanded positions within the government; Justinian looked upon the nobility as troublemakers who were interested, not in the furtherance of the state, but in their own personal power.  He thus had induced the ire of the nobility.
During the riot some of the nobles helped the people with arms and the imperial palace was stormed. Inside the palace, the Emperor and all his ministers were in a state of terror and did not know what to do. They talked of escape since they had access to boats in the harbor but they were not sure whether that was the course they should take.
It was at this point that the Empress Theodora stood up, quieted the men down, and gave this eloquent speech: “I do not care whether or not it is proper for a woman to give brave counsel to frightened men; but in moments of extreme danger, conscience is the only guide. Every man who is born into the light of day must sooner or later die; and how can an Emperor ever allow himself to become a fugitive? If you, my Lord, wish to save your skin, you will have no difficulty in doing so.  We are rich, there is this sea, there too are our ships.  But consider first whether, when you reach safety, you will not regret that you did not choose death in preference.  As for me, I stand by the ancient saying: 'royalty makes the best shroud' ”.
This speech instilled the needed courage in the ministers and the Emperor.  Justinian recalled the recent arrival of some mercenaries and the presence of Belisarius, considered the greatest general in the history of the Byzantine Empire, within Constantinople.  Belisarius was given command and put the riot down quickly and ruthlessly.
Those of the nobility, particularly a number of senators, who were directly involved in the riots paid with their lives; other nobility whose sympathies lay with the rioters, were hounded by the tax collectors which kept them permanently out of Justinian's hair.  For the rest of his long and glorious reign, justinian kept a close watch on the taxes levied on the people to ensure, not only their compliance, but also their satisfaction with being treated fairly.
Today we see the struggle within the Republican Party for the leadership necessary to moderate the demands of the nobles (the elites of our day) and do true justice for the people struggling for a good life of their own making without the tyranny of government.
Sometimes it takes a woman; whether Emperor or Empress is not of as much importance as her courage in speaking out with fortitude and honesty in times of crises when men seemingly have lost their compass and need such womanly direction.  In our times, I believe, it takes a Sarah.

Right Wing Women ROCK!

Actually the title says it all; proof is in the video.

Sarah Palin, Our next President?

Who knows who our next president will be but, more than any other person, Sarah Palin embodies the spirit needed to bring America from the brink of totalitarianism whose steady growth, for almost a century, has been gaining strength through the auspices of the Democratic Party.  This video is a classic in catching the spirit of a leadership like Sarah Palin's.

NO QUITTERS, FEARLESS, WITH UNBRIDLED DETERMINATION

There are those who ponder: why have the Dems not just used their present advantage in both House and Senate to extend the Bush tax cuts?  They would be so popular with the people and they could retain power.  Why don't they get it?  Oh, they get it alright; sadly, many of us who are enthralled over capturing the house by a significant margin, and at least paring their margin in the Senate, do not.

As Simple Simon would say, and I, having likewise as simple a mind as he, would say:  the Dems have a deliberate plan which they will never let go, come hell or high water, come victory or defeat; that's why Harry and Nancy are again in the lead power positions.  What is their plan?  Complete takeover of America, all its institutions and all its people - No compromise!   No prisoners!  Just surrender!

You think me daft?  You think me extreme?  Well consider this!  My wife and her whole family had to flee Hungary as the Russian Communists took over the country at the end of WWII because her father, an anti-Nazi and anti-Communist, was a member of Parliament and would have been killed.

Because of this background, my education and my natural inclination toward America as a nation of freedom-loving people, I have come to understand the workings of the Left:  Fascists, Communists, Progressives, Statists;  they all aspire to control by their government over the people.  They do not compromise, they do not quit, they use all means necessary to get and keep control.  Their God is the State. Their major weapon is the Lie.  Lenin, the founder of the Communist State in Russia said, "If you tell a lie often enough, people will begin to believe it"

They never quit.  In 1948 the Hungarians, under Soviet control, had an election and voted in a non-communist government by a large margin; by the time the next election arrived, the Communists had so undermined the government that the Communists easily won and held onto power for 40 years, with only the abortive Hungarian Revolution of 1956 to disrupt their absolute control.

This background gives rise to my view of the real intentions of Democrat Statists in Washington: They have the votes to do anything like extending the Bush tax cuts without any Republican help; but they will not. They seek to compromise with the Republicans to get a half extension of the tax cuts; They will diddle and diddle but eventually they will use all the diddle time to blame their opposition for not doing anything - NO, NO Republicans.  They will use the Lie to confound the opposition and leave them silent, bewildered and dumfounded.

This will be so unless the opposition takes the field with a firm stand, bellowing down the statists with the TRUTH.  But they can do this only if the Republicans see the Democrats, not as fellow leaders who want the best for the people but rather as enemies of the constitution and the freedoms and rights that flow from it.  Whether these lame ducks have the courage and stamina to do this is the $64 trillion dollar question.

MANY BATTLES TO FIGHT

My response to an e-mail from a student of mine at Leeward Community College in Pearl City, Hawaii after the 2010 Election:

I'm not sure what your question is but if you want me to comment on the e-mail sent you by your friend who is appropriately concerned about a bill Harry Reid wants to pass in the senate  concerning the prohibition of a long established right to private growing of food even in hawaii, here it is:

In 2008 I voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin because it scared the heck out of me as to what obama's undefined "change" was going to mean.  the "change" was nothing more than the "shove it down your throat" determination to have every aspect of our lives controlled by big government (along with big business and big labor working in concert with big government).

Now we are seeing the controls that are being mandated by big government Democrats through thousands of little rules and regulations on thousands of pages of bills nobody cared to or had time to read, passed hurriedly by the Democrat maJority in congress.  we are starting to see some of these rules, regulations, fines and statements of outright arrogance put into action (as with the TSA); Reid wants to shove down our throats and more is to come, as eloquently stated in house speaker, Nancy Pelosi's, declaration:  "you won't find out what's in the bill until you pass it".

Yes, now we are going to find out - especially in this state of Hawaii where the vast maJority of law makers are Democrats who march in lock step with what Obama, Reid and Pelosi demand:  should we be growing our own food because presumably big government has not  inspected it to ensure it is safe; is the answer to be total prohibition, rather than reasonable safety regulations; it appears government at the federal level would rather take your rights away than bother itself with any kind of moderate regulation.  This is tyranny and it will stick if the people have not elected representatives who care about individual rights.

As a Republican conservative i worked hard to support good candidates in hawaii as well as on the mainland up to the 2010 election.  we were literally wiped out here in hawaii but on the mainland we got very good republican conservative candidates into congress, especially in the house where Nancy Pelosi was knocked out as speaker; it will be up to these new people to roll back these horrible mandates designed to destroy the freedoms we have had in this beautiful America for centuries.

I hope and pray they are successful, but it's going to be a long and arduous task to restore our freedoms; we must keep aware of what is going on in government, educate ourselves about the greatness of America in spite of its faults, and retire from political office those who do not believe in that greatness.  in addition we must do whatever we can to support those who support freedom and the rights we are guaranteed by our federal constitution and its bill of rights.

Here in Hawaii, though, unless people wake up to what a one party system of government can do to eliminate many of our cherished rights, it may take us much longer to restore those rights.
